The story continues

A few days later Kiki saw a fox at one of the springs. The fox had come for a refreshing drink and to bath in the cool water. Kiki was a little bit frightened of the fox because he was so much bigger than him but he despiratly wanted a friend so he called out to the fox; "Excuse me Mr Fox but would you like to be my friend? I am sure that I could be a very good friend if only you will give me a chance" The fox looked about him to see who had spoken, then he noticed Kiki Mallow and he growled, "Why are you bothering me? I don't want to be your friend, you are far too dirty". And with that the fox strode away into the forest. Poor, poor Kiki, he felt so sad. It seemed that no-one wanted to be his friend, they all thought that he was too smelly or ugly or dirty. Kiki sat and cried, he was so sad that he no longer smiled and he faded from a chocolate brown colour to a pale beige. Just then Kiki heard a voice behind him "Please don't cry" it said "I will be your friend". Kiki turned around and saw the prettiest little rabbit he had ever set eyes on and she was speaking to him! "Hello". The rabbit said "My name is Sweet Bunny Kisses. I live near here and I heard what all these creatures said to you. It's true that you do smell a little and you are a bit dirty and your not the most handsom creature that I have ever seen, but you can't help that, your a Plopsie!" Kiki was so surprised that he couldn't say anything, he just smiled and his colou began to return to normal. Sweet Bunny Kisses smiled too, "I want to be your friend because you have a good and loving heart and I don't care what you look like but unfortunatly other people do. I think that I know someone who can help you though, come with me to the wishing tree" So them two friends set off together through the enchanted forest to find the wishing tree. The story begins

Once upon a time, not so very long ago, there was an enchanted forest. This forest was very old and very beautiful, it had many ancient trees which grew tall and strong and were home to hundreds of little birds. In this forest there were also some great rocky outcrops among which were grottoes and caves and amongst these were scores of fresh water springs. The water from the springs was very sweet and bubbled up with a sound like joyful music, this water made the plants and trees in the forest grow to be lush, green and very beautiful. The forest was home to many creatures; squirrels, rabbits, foxes, deer and various magical little peoples including faries, pixies and sprites. It was a beautiful morning in the enchanted forest, the sky was bright blue, shafts of golden sunlight where shining down through the green canopy of the trees and a rainbow of flowers made a carpet across the forest floor. A little Plopsie was born in the forest on this wonderful day, that Plopsie's name was Kiki Mallow. Kiki Mallow opened his brand new eyes and looked about him; he saw how beautiful the forest was with it's trees, flowers, rocks and springs, with the wide blue sky above. Kiki wrinkled his little nose for the first time, sniffed the air and smelt mingled smells of earth, trees and flowers. Kiki felt so happy to have been born in such a wonderful place that he smiled, then he opened his mouth for the first time and laughed. At first Kiki was content to spend his days watching the creatures of the forest going about their business and listening to the songs of the birds and the sound of the springs, he watched the days turn in to nights and back again. After a while Kiki began to wish that he could play a bigger part in the life of the forest. Kiki realised that none of the creatures of the forest took any notice of him, if one did happen to glance his way they would make a disgusted face and quickly hurry away. Poor Kiki could not understand why this should be, his heart was full of love and he wanted nothing more than to make friends with the other creatures. Kiki decided that he would try to talk to the next creature who passed by and ask them to be his friend, he was sure he could be a very good friend. The next day Kiki saw a Mouse scurrying along the path gathering flowers and seeds, he called out to the Mouse; "Please Mrs Mouse won't you be my friend? I'm sure I could be a vey good friend if you'll let me try." The Mouse looked at Kiki Mallow and he wiggled his sensitive nose; "Oh no", she said " You can't be my friend, you smell too much." and she scurried away. Kiki was sad that the Mouse didn't want to be his friend but he did not give up hoping that he would find a friend. The very next day Kiki saw a squirrel scampering among the trees looking for nuts, he called out to the squirrrel; "Please Mr Squirrel won't you be my friend? I'm sure I could be a very good friend to me if you'll let me try." The squirrel looked at Kiki Mallow and he groomed his perfect little face; "Oh no" he said "You can't be my friend, your too ugly." and he scampered away. Poor Kiki, he was very upset that two creatures had refused to be his friend but he wasn't going to give up hoping, he would find a friend. TO BE CONTINUED.....
